Revolutionizing High-Volume Photonics: Photodigm’s New Gain Chips Unveiled

Photodigm is proud to unveil its latest product line featuring cutting-edge gain chips, with an inaugural offering at 780 nm, 795 nm and 850 nm. This expansion, driven by Photodigm’s state-of-the-art monolithic single-frequency Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) DBR laser technology, significantly broadens the application horizon for high-performance lasers, encompassing external cavity diode lasers (ECDLs) and semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs).

The Single Angle Facet (SAF) Gain Chip Series epitomizes monolithic excellence, delivering a single spatial mode beam. These gain chips boast a unique anti-reflective and highly reflective coating pair (>90% HR, <0.1% AR) and passivated facets, featuring a curved waveguide with a 5° angle exit. Leveraging external optical feedback for wavelength tuning and narrow linewidth, the SAF Series is a reliability benchmark widely embraced in ECDL applications. It offers flexibility with two physical layout configurations, Normal Emission (NE) and Angled Emission (AE), catering to diverse customer needs.

Widely applicable in scenarios addressing isolator and fiber insertion losses, the Dual Angle Facet (DAF) Gain Chip Series often serves as a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA), embodying innovation and reliability. Similarly rooted in Photodigm’s advanced monolithic single-frequency GaAs laser technology, the DAF Series presents a single spatial mode beam. With a unique anti-reflective coating pair (<3% AR both sides) and passivated facets, DAF gain chip devices incorporate an angled waveguide at the output facet. This design minimizes internal reflections, ensuring the gain medium doesn’t act as a resonator cavity.

Together, these series redefine the landscape of laser technology, underscoring Photodigm’s unwavering commitment to excellence. Prospective OEMs are encouraged to engage with Photodigm for discussions on product offerings spanning wavelengths from 730 to 1090 nm. Notably, our SAF products support Direct Edge Coupling (DEC™) at the chip-on-submount level, facilitating easy integration with photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and related waveguides.
