The Mercury™ Package
Photodigm has once again redefined the definition of high power in single frequency spectroscopic laser diodes. Listening to our customers' needs for higher power and longer lifetime, we are now delivering 780, 785, and 852 nm lasers at rated powers of up to 250 mW. These higher powers are the result of advances in epi design and wafer fabrication, advances that could only be made through the dedication and skill of our engineers in our own wafer fab. Users will immediately notice lower threshold and higher slope efficiency compared to earlier generations of product.
High power requires a high power package. Many customers are familiar with the workhouse from the '90's, the large and clunky TO3. The TO3 does not accommodate the needs of today's customers. Small volume, low thermal mass for rapid tuning, and high volume manufacturing-capable are all critical today. To meet these requirements, Photodigm has relied on experience derived from the telecom industry to develop the Mercury package, so named because it is the size of a US dime. This OEM package will handle up to 1 watt of power, giving us the headroom for future advances.
Using the Mercury package Photodigm has introduced laser diodes with up to 280mW of diffraction-limited single lateral-and longitudinal-mode laser power in a free space beam. The high power products are available today at 780 nm, 785 nm, and 852 nm.
